Commanders Column

Comrades,

Halfway through my second hitch as your Commander and I would like to thank the dedicated volunteers who continue to work to make improvements to our  post and make the lounge a place where all veterans feel welcome.

Having said that I we would like you all to take a minute and say a prayer for the servicemen and women who have paid the ultimate price for our great nation.  Minnesota has had it’s share of casualties in the last few weeks and we need to keep these brothers and sisters and their families in our hearts.

As Veterans Day approaches, we hope to have the best showing in years on November 11th.  The music will start at 4:00 PM with free lunch and coffee at 5:00 PM.  We’re going to pay special attention to the Korean War Vets, but we’re rolling out the red carpet for all Veterans and their guests.

Before too long we’re going to be working on the Kids Christmas Party.  We’d like to encourage members to bring in their kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, etc.,  invite a neighbor kid to take part in the fun. Some of us still believe in Santa and we’re hoping he doesn’t get stuck in Cohasset again this year

MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP

Our Post has a high rate of Life memberships, but for those of you that are yearly members please pay your dues!!  You can go on-line at VFW.org to pay or drop the dues off at the Post.

The VFW has a lot of opportunities for volunteers to get involved in projects they like.  Let me or the Commander know what you are interested in and we can find something for you to do.  Color Guard, speakers or help around the Post home are all needed.

It’s not too early to start thinking about the Buddy Poppy Program.  We had a great Buddy Poppy drive last year and we are planning for an even better one this year. Please remember this is your Post,  it is what we make it!  Thanks for your service!!

Changes in the Lounge

It seems like every day we’re adding more amenities and shining up different areas of the lounge.

In addition to our 46” HD television, we have installed a 16 foot HD projection television – It’s the closest most of us will get to seats on the 50 yard line!  Vikings games have been,  and continue to be a big hit with Marian still rallying the Cheerleaders.  We have connected the Wii to this monster and it’s great for bowling, tennis, boxing, or golf.  We have also added wireless internet for those who want to come in and “surf the net” while relaxing.

We have meat raffles on Friday nights starting at 5:30 and during all Vikings games.  We added a few micro beers along with Honey Weiss on tap to go with our Happy Hour all day on Saturdays.

We’ve added a credit card machine and are now accepting Visa and Mastercard.    If you haven’t been in for w visit in a while come by and check it the lounge – you’re going to like it!
